2025 Through the Mask of Our Divers

In 2025, our divers reported conditions ranging from “flat calm and crystal clear” to “milky,” “snotty,” “Baltic,” and the unforgettable “couldn’t see the end of my speargun” (sometimes also missing a fin!). Visibility bounced between “5–6m”, “better than expected”, and “below 1m… ambient light lost”, sometimes with “lots of sediment”, “algae bloom” or “loads of suspended particles” just to keep things spicy. The sea was frequently “very calm”, occasionally “bumpy”, sometimes “choppy”, and once so calm there was “nothing except seagulls”.

Despite this chaos, marine life showed up reliably: endless bass, mullet , pollack, wrasse and trigger fish; armies of spider crabs 🦀 (plus velvet, edible and arrow crabs), lobsters 🦞, octopus 🐙 (sometimes), conger and moray eels, nursehound and cat sharks, seals 🦭, jellies 🪼 and starfish!

Our community is growing!

We launched Marla native iPhone and Android apps in late 2024. Since then, we saw a steady growth of monthly active users on both platforms, peaking at the end of the diving season in the UK and Ireland.

Thanks for being with us this season and submitting more than 220 dive reports! We received reports from all around the UK and Ireland! Your reports are crucial to calibrate and further improve Marla’s algorithms!

In 2025, we introduced premium subscriptions to cover our ongoing costs and fund further development of Marla’s algorithms and features. Since its launch, we were amazed how many of you signed up for the premium version! This means a lot to us, thank you!

What’s next

We have a great roadmap for 2026! Soon we will be launching Marla in a few additional geographic regions (heads up to overseas divers!). We are also planning an update to our algorithm thanks to all the new data and reports we collected in 2025. And more!
