Introducing Marla Version 3: More accurate dive visibility forecasts

At Marla, we’ve always been passionate about helping divers explore the UK’s underwater world with confidence. That’s why we’re excited to unveil Version 3 of our dive visibility forecasting algorithm—our most advanced and accurate model yet.

Introducing Marla Version 3!

Over the summer, we launched a campaign to reach 500 visibility reports. The UK diving community has responded with great enthusiasm, and we are so pleased to announce we have reached our goal! 

Your in-the-water reports are crucial to this updated version.

We’ve taken each of those 500 reports, and run them through the model. The model has looked at the data and where it was wrong, has adjusted, and where it was right has become more confident in its calculations. 

We’ve also made changes so the app loads faster, and lots of other smaller improvements. 

This powerful new algorithm is now live in the Marla Blue app. Whether you're planning your next dive or just curious about conditions, open the app, select your dive spot, and explore the improved forecasts powered by Version 3.

Help us improve

Version 3 has been improved by incorporating all your diver reports into the model. The more diver reports we get, the more accurate Marla will be in the future, helping you plan your dives. 

We want reports from anywhere around the UK and Ireland, whether or not they match Marla’s prediction. 

If the forecast is different to your reports we can re-calibrate. 

If the forecast is the same as your reports, we know we are on the right track and can understand how accurate the forecasts are. 

We love data. If you keep a digital log book of your dives (we need the GPS or lat/ log, dive date, visibility) and would like to contribute to research, email your log books to info@marla.blue
