Last week we attended the annual Go Diving Show UK - a two-day event packed with talks, workshops, try-dives, mobile science laboratories and exhibits covering everything from tropical holidays and underwater archaeology to innovations in scuba gear and ocean conservation. And, of course, diving in the UK.

It has been an exciting opportunity to network with fellow divers, meet Marla's users, converse on weather forecasting (everyone has a strong opinion!) and explore the latest and the strangest in the diving industry!

Here is the top of Marla's picks from the show:

Snorkelology - this amazing couple (Emma and Gordon) has spent 3 years snorkelling around the British shores - from Isles of Scilly to Orkney - and wrote a beautifully illustrated book on this topic. At the show, Emma gave a talk about her journey from technical diving to snorkelling rock pools, her adventures in collecting material for the book and the diverse sea life and she found in every corner of the country.

Scuba Ry - I've never seen anyone so excited about their job as Ryan from Scuba Ry. And for a good reason. Not only Scuba Ry is the most westerly dive centre - blessed with one of the best dive conditions in the country - but is also a place to learn everything about lobsters. During a very special course - run by Scuba Ry and The National Lobster Hatchery - one can dive into the science of lobster conservation and practice releasing baby lobsters into the wild. The course results in a certificate that allows a graduated diver to repeat the exercise on their own!

Sharktrust - a small team in Devon working hard to improve the conservation status of sharks, skates and rays. Paul and his team promote science-based sustainable management of fisheries in the UK and overseas through industry engagements and public campaigns. At the Sharktrust stand, I stumbled upon a wonderful photograph of a Port Jackson Shark by an underwater photographer and freediver (Vadim Belakhov) whom I recently met in Melbourne (where these beautiful creatures are so abounded!).

Haven Diving Services - amazing encounter with this guys from HDS! On the mention of diving visibility, they showed Marla on their phones and praised it for helping them with dive briefings 😊 Check out their amazing shore dives in gorgeous Pembrokeshire. Rest assured, they know how to chose spots with the best conditions!

There is of course much more to Go Diving Show and one can spent the full two days roaming around the stands of dive charters, testing novelties in diving gear, learning the science of scuba diving, looking at the relics exhibited by The Historical Diving Society or just having a lough about your recent underwater adventure.

With the diving season just around the corner, the show is a great occasion to plan your summer trips and get everything ready to dive in! And when the time comes, check Marla forecast for the spots with the best dive conditions!
