While we know the underwater visibility is key to having a good dive, good, flat sea conditions determine whether you can actually get in the water or not.
Introducing the conditions overlay map: at each dive spot, switch between seeing the visibility, wind or swell, helping you find a spot with great diving conditions today or tomorrow.
Wind
Check the wind speed and direction for any spot around the UK for today and tomorrow. The new overlay allows you to see the wind speed and direction at a glance.
The wind shown for today is the average for the next three hours, and the wind for tomorrow is an average for the whole day. Get a more detailed view by checking the wind charts.
The wind is shown with four different icons to help you quickly see if diving is possible:
Green
0-1 BFT (0-3 mph)
Calm to light air
Sea rippled
Great for diving
Lime
2-3 BFT (4-12 mph)
Light to gentle breeze
Small wavelets on sea
Good for diving
Orange
4-5 BFT (13-24 mph)
Moderate to fresh breeze
Small to moderate waves, white horses
OK, but warning for diving
Red
6+ BFT (25+ mph):
Very strong breeze to a storm
Large waves, extensive foam crests
Dangerous for diving

Swell
Knowing the direction of the swell is also critical. The new overlay allows you to see the swell strength direction at a glance, helping you find a sheltered cove.
The swell shown for today is the average for the next three hours, and the wind for tomorrow is an average for the whole day. Get a more detailed view by checking the swell charts.
The swell overlay comes in 4 different colour codes to help you assess if diving is possible:
Green
0-2 ft
Calm to slight swell
Great for diving
Lime
2-4 ft
Moderate to rough swell
OK for diving
Orange
4-6 ft
Very rough swell
Risky for diving
Red
6+ ft
High swell
Dangerous for diving

Underwater visibility
Our bespoke AI model forecasts the underwater visibility at each dive spot. The forecast is updated hourly based on real-time weather conditions, and is an average for the day.
The visibility is shown in 4 different ranges:
Red, 4 stripes
1-3m
Orange, 3 stripes
3-5m
Lime, 1 stripe
5-8m
Green, no stripes
8-12+m

The colour-coded ranges are intended guides, aiming to make the conditions easier to read. The ranges cannot account for currents or specific local conditions that might make diving dangerous.
As with all forecasts, they may not be 100% accurate. Please make sure conditions are safe before you get in the water.
